If you are not familiar with tinkering with Raspberry Pi, or if you want a well-supported and dedicated piece of hardware to run Home Assistant, Home Assistant Green is for you.

If you are still looking for a present for friends and family, this would be perfect, too!

The most obvious difference is that Home Assistant Green is a plug-and-play system. It is designed to be used as-is. Home Assistant Yellow is designed to be extended by more RAM or more storage by adding an NVMe SSD. But extending also means you have to open the housing, install the additional hardware, and go through more complex installation steps.

The other big difference is that Yellow comes with support for Zigbee 3.0 and Matter-over-Thread. But Green can also use these protocols by adding a Connect ZBT-1.

It is not strictly required, as most smart home devices and hubs work with Home Assistant Green out-of-the-box, but you should confirm compatibility. For the best experience, pair Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 with Home Assistant Green, making a single hub solution for your Zigbee or Thread powered smart home.

Hone assistant green

Great first experience with home assistant, very easy initial set up, would recommend HA Green. Auto imported every device fro smartthings and hue no problem.

Time to give HA a try

I’ve been using various different systems for home automation and have decided to go down the HA route to allow me to connect to some smart sockets. I enjoy watching the content Lewis posts and have confidence from them that the HA Green is just what I need as I now have everything setup and working.

I should have done it long ago

I’ve run home assistant in my homelab for years now. It’s been great but there has been one too many outages because I reconfigured/broke/played with the VM cluster ….. again.
A box dedicated to home assistant and nothing else that supports the project what more could you want.

the equipment arrived within a few days, it was well packaged and came with easy to follow set up instructions. Im slowly getting to grips with setting up my home assistant green and integrating my sensors and lights etc. it's a learning curve and a step up from Siri and Alexa and sometimes its quite frustrating. once I become more familiar with the system I'm sure it will be everything I hope for and more
